Crossing The Bar

Over the past few months we have had to say goodbye to the following as they have crossed the bar.

Fred Nicholsen passed away in March 2010. Sincere belated condolences to the Nicholson family

Daryl Archibald passed away on the 5th August 2010. Sincere belated condolences to the Archibald family from the 16th Minesweeping Squadron family.

This months featured image comes from the website of Des Bettany who served during WWII and was imprisoned at Changi. More of his work can be found at  changipowart.com

The 70th Anniversary of the Fall of Singapore is in February 2012 .

This new website has been put together by Des’ family as a tribute and to help raise awareness of what the POWs went through, as seen through the eyes of one man, Des Bettany.

Professor Ian Pfennigwerth, author of ‘Tiger Territory’ recently wrote “There is a pretty significant anniversary next year – 1 October 1962 16th MSS sailed from UK on delivery voyage; 6 December arrived Waterhen. Can it really be 50 years! “

Indeed it can, and is, and if anyone has any ideas how this event should be commemorated, please contact us using the contact page.

News round up and into 2012 we come!
