Saturday 1 July was a reunion of those who served in
HMNZ Ships Hickleton and Santon and their support
party during Confrontation.
25% of those veterans who served attended the
function in Auckland. Also present was Allan Jones
from Australia, representing the 16th Minesweeper
Squadron, the Chief of the New Zealand Navy, Rear
Admiral David Ledson, and the High Commissioner for
Malaysia, His Excellency Dato Sapain Mahmed. His
Excellency took the opportunity to present the Pinga
Jasa Malaysia medal to several veterans.

The reunion was also the venue for the launch of a
book
'A Kiwi on our Funnel' by Gerry Wright telling the
story of the New Zealand naval involvement in
Confrontation. Those Australians who were there will
relate well to this book which compliments 'Hands to
Boarding Stations' by John Foster.
